ARYLL LAB - { ARYLL }
appearance ¬ Cynder can pull off looking like an ordinary human in most circumstances. She usually wears a long trench coat to better hide the fact that she has dark blue fur down her back that extends into a sort of wide frill or 'tail' just above her butt. While this can usually be disguised from all but the most intense scrutiny by a well-picked shirt, she is very self conscious about it. Through necessity her hair is short, in a sort of pixie-cut. It's color consists of streaks of cream and dark blue, with easily overlooked red tips. Her eyes are a red hue, though somehow they manage to look more serene than evil- despite her worries about the latter. Her skin is a light cream color and appears perfectly normal, disregarding her furry backside. More than anything else though, her most outstanding feature is the tell-tale flames that are customary of a Typhlosion. These flames erupt from the back of her neck, just above the shoulders- but only when she is highly upset, or when she is relaxed and happy- particularly after a stressful day. Her hair, luckily, is not in danger of catching fire as it seems to have a similar resistance as a Typhlosion's fur; however, it is always quite uncomfortable when it is long. | personality ¬ Cynder is often troubled with emotional turmoil- her life has not been the easiest and it has definitely left its marks on her personality. She has a difficult time trusting others and is very reserved- in fact, the only person who perhaps truly knows and understands her is her loving husband, Danny. She can seem to be ill-tempered, but the anger is no more than a front, a barrier if you will against further pain. Few things can actually make her truly upset, and those all involve her family and friends. She simply will not stand for anyone insulting or attempting to harm her husband or sister, or any of the Pokemon. She is a tad touchy about this and may mistake an innocent remark as something more sinister. Cynder is even more on edge when it comes to her relationship with Danny- having come from a region where Pokemorphs were considered as less than humans, she is used to outrage and disdain regarding the relationship between herself and her human husband; even in Aryll, where Pokemorphs are treated nearly as equals, she still carries the pain with her. When she is with Danny, she can almost seem like a different person. She is less guarded, less angry, she is happy and laughing and simply enjoying everything around her. She loves him dearly and would do anything for him. She accidentally burns him rather often when she forgets to control her emotions and flames, and always feels horrible about it- she can be seen moping after such incidents, ashamed. |
history ¬
Caroline was born into a loving family, where she grew up happily for eleven years. Her mother had another daughter when Carol was eleven, and the young girl was quite excited to have a little sister to take care of and teach- and to play with, because sometimes being an only child could get rather lonely. Things were going well, but about a year after Ashley's birth, tragedy struck the family. Carol cannot remember exactly why they were in the car that day, what they were doing, but she remembers the accident. It haunts her in flashbacks and in her nightmares; no one saw it coming. The car that hit them came out of nowhere, it should not have happened at all.
The parents were killed on impact, while Carol was severely injured and slipped into a coma. Somehow the car seat managed to protect baby Ashley, shielding her from the blow and the caving in of their vehicle. Being only one year old, Ashley knew none of this of course- and as they had no living relatives the small child was put up for adoption. Carol's condition was tenuous at best, and it only grew worse- the doctors essentially pronounced her case as hopeless- she was not expected to survive. Whether by luck, or more likely misfortune, a scientist was searching for just such a subject. So, the twelve year old girl was taken.
The scientist was performing experiments with Pokemon DNA and the effects it had on humans. He was curious about Pokemorphs, a rarity at the time in that area. He intentionally created a morph out of the girl- though he had not expected the DNA to save the child's life. He was a callous man, obviously, and despite the unexpected turn of events he viewed it as a miracle- for his research, of course. He kept the girl locked away, though he was not unnecessarily cruel; he treated her well, with reverence even, when not performing tests on her. These 'experiments' were none too pleasant for the child, yet she was still very much injured and she was far too exhausted each day to attempt any escape. For a long time at least.
One day she did escape, and lived alone. She ventured into towns, trying to find some compassion or help, to find out what had become of her family- but everywhere she went she was met with the fear and hatred that was so customary of anything 'different'. Naturally she grew to not trust People, and lived for the most part as a wild animal- she slept in caverns and forests, ate what she could find, stole what she could not. Fate smiled upon the young woman though, in the form of a kind hearted human- the man who would become her husband. He found her, and only after she had finally come to trust him did she realize just how much he had worked and struggled to help her.
After introducing the woman back into society, Daniel took care of her for a good while before they took their relationship a step further. They became romantically involved, and eventually were married. They were both immensely happy together, but the couple was treated much like a pariah, as something other, something dangerous and diseased... they were reviled and despised, feared and not trusted. Nearly everyone looked down upon them and their relationship, their daring to be different. Still with each other they found the strength to bare it and lived their lives as best they could. And then, one day out of the blue, a woman tracked down the couple and approached them- a total stranger.
Cynder did not know it, but this was her sister, Ashley, now a professor of a region known as 'Aryll'. So, one can imagine her shock as this strange woman ran up to her and hugged her- not even pausing for introductions or explanations. Cynder would simply have retreated into her self-imposed protective barrier, were it not for Daniel; it was he who gave Ashley a chance to relate her tale. Her sister invited the couple to come back with her to Aryll- and they discussed it, deciding that it was time for a change, and Ashley's description of the region- of how Pokemorphs were viewed and treated in a much better light- gave the couple the hope they needed to pack up their lives and begin a fresh start.
