location ¬
ARYLL LAB - { ARYLL }
appearance ¬ Danny has cropped warm brown hair, with deep chocolate colored eyes to match. He is slightly taller than his wife, but is about average height for a man. Of the three people who normally care for the Aryll Lab, he is the only one that one would see wearing a customary white lab coat. He dresses perhaps a tad too formally with his black slacks and cotton shirt, but he is simply trying to do his best and support the lab. When not working he dresses far more casually, in jeans or even just wearing his pajamas. He often has gauze and bandages covering his arms, neck, and sometimes face. This is due to the burns he oftentimes gets from his wife- albeit purely accidental. He doesn't mind, and does not bother to cover up the injuries, and mostly just laughs them off. | personality ¬ Danny is a kind, friendly, gentle sort of man. He always has a cheerful laugh and a smile for everyone- no matter if they need it or not. He never takes himself very seriously, and he is brilliant at finding the silver lining in dark situations. He is the sort of man who would laugh at himself, his mistakes and failings, joking about it. Then he would turn right around and offer a shoulder to cry on and a serious attitude whenever someone else needed it. He loves his wife, Cynder, dearly- and he cares about her sister and the lab, the Pokemon, all of whom he considers to be their family. He knows that events in his wife's life have cut her deeply and left her vulnerable- much more so emotionally than physically, as he is well aware that she could very well kick his butt. Each day his greatest aspiration is simply to make sure she knows how he feels about her, and to try to heal her bit by bit. Being the husband to a Pokemorph is not the safest thing in the world- particularly when that morph has a habit of having flames burst out of her neck with little to no warning. He finds it rather funny, though he hates how badly she feels after burning him. He tries to joke about it and laugh it off, because really the burns are a small price to pay for her love. |
history ¬
Daniel did not grow up with most of the luxuries in the world today. His childhood was a simpler one. His parents had left him in the care of his Grandfather from a young age, and the elderly man took great care to teach the boy wrong from right and to care for him. And Danny loved his Grandfather dearly, and did not mind the life he lived- in fact, he viewed it as more of a privilege than anything. While other kids who lived in the town proper had video games and television, he found his entertainment by reading books or wandering around the woods surrounding his Grandfather's cabin. He loved learning and exploring, but he and his Grandfather were always outcasts to the nearby community.
Danny worked hard and was doing so even more as he grew older. He wanted to go to school, to study and learn and make his way in the world. He did not know what he wanted to become, there were just too many things he would like to do; but he did not have to make that decision before taking steps to secure a future. He worked to earn money, as he had never had much and certainly not enough to get him by or pay any sort of tuition fees. He also studied hard, knowing he would need to prove himself in order to earn any scholarships or grants possible. At the same time, he also started taking over the role of caretaker as his grandfather was getting on in years and having more difficulty doing things.
The young man knew he was in for a struggle, one that would not be won easily or quickly. He was positive though, there was no need to rush because he had plenty of time- and if it turned out he didn't, then he really would not be losing anything anyway. His Grandfather became his biggest concern and he spent less time on his studies and more time helping his guardian. It was during this time of struggle that he first saw the strange Pokemorph woman in the woods- his future wife.
He could tell that the woman had been hurt deeply, and that she was afraid. Naturally, his heart went out to her- he was not the close-minded judgmental individual that most people in the area were. Nor was he afraid to stick his neck out and show that. He made several attempts to communicate with her, but was always shut down. He put a halt in his studies altogether, and only worked the minimum to meet his and his Grandfather's needs- otherwise he was with the old man or in the woods trying to find a hole in Cynder's shell.
Eventually his attempts paid off. It was something that happened gradually over several months, years even. First he got her to stay within sight, then to allow him within a yard of her. Then to talk- and how he loved to hear her speak. Their conversations were short and mostly one-sided at first, but as she opened up more they would spend hours just having a conversation. He helped her any way he could, bringing her food and clothes, and even books- which she was able to read progressively more fluently.
She finally came to trust him enough to make herself completely vulnerable and give up the one thing she had- her space. She moved in with him and his grandfather. The elderly man was wary at first, more due to lack of experience with morphs than any prejudices against them, but he warmed up to the young woman quickly- and she to him- much to Danny's delight. His Grandfather lived to see the two get married.
Since then Danny and Cynder have been together, both very much in love. However, as each of them expected, their relationship was met with a mixture of revulsion, hatred, and fear. They were treated as something vile and other, and had no real friends or ties in the area. So when Cynder's sister, whom she had believed dead, showed up one day on their doorstep accepting them both with open arms and heart, Danny was pleased. He wanted Cynder to have more love in her life than just himself. Ashley invited them to Aryll, where Pokemorphs were supposedly treated more like equals, and the couple talked it over before agreeing that a change of scenery would be a good thing. They now work with Ashley in the Aryll Lab.
