#134 BIBAVOTIS |
class -- ( FIGHTING BEAVER POKEMON ) type -- ( WATER / FIGHTING ) egg group -- ( FIELD / HUMANSHAPE ) gender -- ( BOTH ) height -- ( 5' 00" ) weight -- ( 112 lbs ) habitat -- ( IN RIVERS ) pokédex entry ¬ Though often gentle, this Pokémon has been known to attack anyone who tries to steal from its dam. | description ¬ Bibavotis may seem hostile at first glance, but they do not randomly attack anyone. In fact, they even allow the crossing of their dam and don't mind when children play on it. However, try to take an egg or even a stick from their dam and they will show a different side. They will attack the thief until they surrender. Even with this hostility, they seem to know how much violence is necessary and never over attack. They have been known to simply toss a grabby child gently onto land and guard the passage back when their sanctuary has been violated. A lone male Bibavotis will spend all day and night without food or breaks, building their dam until it is stable. Even after the initial dam is complete they can be seen repairing and upgrading it throughout the years. A Bibavotis never really stops building its home, and this is why some refer to them as the perfectionist Pokémon. Eventually a female Bibavotis will join the male, and sometimes even more males and females will live in one dam together. Their groups have not been known to exceed six, however, and quite often only two will call a particular dam their home. When their eggs are almost ready to hatch, Bibavotis will sit them in the river where they will float downstream. This egg will hatch in the river and the new Bibavotis will jump out and immediately start building their own dam, not eating its first meal until the job is complete. Females, however, will laze around until they decide to find a mate. Female Bibavotis's have been seen in forests and routes and even other bodies of water. Researchers agree that any Bibavotis not on a dam is an untaken female. Once a female decides to settle down, she, like the male, will never stray far from the dam. She will even help with the remodels and repairing or rebuilding of a dam if necessary, working just as hard as the males. It is currently unknown for certain why a male would sometimes join an already existing dam instead of building their own, but due to newly completed research it is believed that if a Bibavotis hatches in close proximity to an already existing dam that they will join it instead of building their own. This has led to more thought concerning a Bibavotis's intelligence as an egg hardly ever hatches next to a dam. It has been discovered that the eggs released in the river hatch at different amounts of time and Bibavotis have been observed occasionally releasing an egg as soon as it is discovered; Other Bibavotis's down the river will pick up the eggs and place them on the other side of their barrier allowing them to once more float downstream. The eggs seam to hatch at an exact distance from the last dam except when their path is blocked by unforeseen elements, like reeds or a Pokémon. Upon doing research on the eggs, it was discovered that they hatch at an uniform time from when they are created. It must be assumed that the Bibavotis calculate the eggs' path. When a river is full, Bibavotis will stop producing eggs. It is unknown how they travel to another river; Some think they go through the ocean, while others believe the females' wandering has something to do with this. What is known is that Bibavotis are a great help to the environment and a necessary part of the ecosystem. | ability one -- ( VITAL SPIRIT ) Protects against the Sleep status condition.
