A Clean Slate

One does not simply walk up to the boss and hand in their resignation, not when you worked for an organization like the Grim. No, walking away required a bit more finesse, a false identity of "Daniel Mykes", some fake IDs to go along with it, and a whole new look to bring it all together. With any luck, the Grim probably hadn't even noticed his disappearance, or at least were still scratching their heads trying to figure out where he took off to.

Now, though, Adrian was in Nirven Town, and walked through the streets easily without barely catching an eye. Fortunately, he hadn't quite made it too far in the Grim. He wouldn't be immediately recognizable, even if he wasn't sporting a new image. Still, it wouldn't be impossible, he wasn't just some bottom level grunt either. So far though, his luck was going pretty well.

Luck was going to stay with him as well, as he made his approach towards the Nirven Lab. Every new trainer had to come here for their starter and other goodies that he likely wasn't going to last too long without. With his cheery and friendly disposition however, he was pretty confident he could do this. Otherwise really, what was the point? He had to start somewhere, and if he'd get recognized here, he'd definitely be recognized by the first gym leader he met.

Without the slightest concern for how many ways this could go wrong, Adrian approached the entrance, and knocked on the door. "HellooOoo, anyone home?" He called out as he rocked back and forth on his heels, awaiting an answer.

The thought that a new trainer would come at this time baffled the ghost as he was busy trying to organize the things in the lab so that he could surprise Tarei when she came home. The ghastly had always been the orderly of most of the woman's pokemon and right now she was out and about doing things while Geran had been left with Cronin, the sleepy heracross that did absolutely nothing. <"Cronin, can you come help me please?"> the ghastly spoke struggling with a box he was levitating to a top level of a shelf. <"Why? I'm content sitting over here."> the bug replied yawning and relaxing back in a chair. At least till a knock sounded that knocked the poor ghastly to the ground with the box landing on top of him with a few other boxes that followed. Cronin sighed as he got up and moved to the door opening it to see a trainer and sighed looking back at the pile of boxes. <"We have a visitor Geran it's your turn."> was all the bug said as he hovered out of the room to the back but before he left he looked back at the boxes. <"Geran, you can phaze through the boxes remember?"> he said before leaving. After a moment the ghastly phazed through the boxes appearing. <"H-Hello, welcome to the Nirven Lab, C-Can I help you?"> the ghastly spoke. He could only hope this person wouldn't be terrified of him.

In a small part of his mind, he could imagine a pokemon being sent out at him and mauling him right off the bat. As nonchalant and at ease as he was, he wasn't unprepared for that potential occurrance. When the door opened however, there was a pokemon, but it apparently wasn't hostile. It was also a bug type so he definitely had the advantage over it in any case.

The Heracross was quick to pass him off to some other pokemon, a Gastly, who in turn was the one to greet him. "Hi buddy! I'm here to get myself a starter pokemon and whatever else it is you're supposed to be offering new trainers!" Adrian said cheerfully as he stepped into the room, looking around with curiosity. "Got a list of them or something I could look at? Or heck, just show me a ton of random pokemon, like uh, six or twentyfiftyorhundredorwhateverhowmanyyougot. I'll take my pick from there."

From what he could see, it was just the Heracross and Gastly here. Two of Professor Tarei's pokemon for sure, now that he thought of it. Heh, perhaps they could still stomp him regardless, but whatever. Things were going smoothly so far, and with any luck he'd get his starter and then he could high-tail it out and actually start doing something.

Geran was surprised this guy didn't already hate him, but that was a good thing. He mentally let out a sigh of relief that this wasn't one of those people that would write him off. The boy was actually very ambitious and he seemed to be right at home instantly and perhaps that was what settled the ghastly some as he started to talk fast however, that made him a little nervous. <"Right of course! There is a list of pokemon available her on the wall over here."> the ghastly spoke hovering to the spot that he had mentioned to the trainer and showing him the list. <"I can bring you three of your choice, or I can randmize three for you."> he said trying to figure out what the boy wanted. He had kinda asked for both so the ghost pokemon could do either or. <"Of course if you don't like any of the first ones I can bring out more as well... just tell me which first three you would like or I can just grab the first ones I come across."> the ghastly hovered near the new trainer now waiting for his final decision on what exactly he wanted

"Aww, only three?" Adrian chuckled, not actually sounding that disappointed as he followed the Gastly to a list of starters they had available. He was being kinda serious wanting to see a lot of what they had, but if those were the rules, well, whatever. "Guess I better decide which ones... Arceus knows I'd probably 'randomly' get a bunch of magikarp put in front of me." He teased, as he leaned over the list.

Mostly, it was just the common starters of various other regions. Grass, Fire, Water. It was all classic. Though it was a wonder you didn't see a whole lot more of them being used considering every trainer for those regions started with one of the three. What happens to them all? Who knew. Probably forever labbed, living out the rest of their days while the trainer they springboarded to success goes on to victory with their team of caught pokemon.

As for his own pick, Adrian did put some considerable thought into it. Froakie was definitely eye catching -- who didn't want a ninja frog? Looking over the list. Dang. There wasn't actually a whole lot available here that he really cared for. Good thing he didn't go random after all. "Well, lets see the Froakies you got." Adrian finally said.

The ghastly calmly floated waiting for the boy to make his decision as to what pokemon that he wanted Geran to bring to him. After a few comments and a bit of deciding the decision was made and froakie was decided. The ghastly bobbed a bit in a attempt at a nod as the creature quickly moved to float into another room and it only took a few moments before the three balls were chosen as the gas pokemon came back with three pokeballs hovering around his body.

<"Let's meet the three lucky pokemon shall we?"> he said before releasing the pokemon one at a time.



Male- Sweet, Courageous | Female- Proud, Willing | Male- Clever, Easer to Please

The first froakie released was a male who instantly moved to the trainer and started to introduce himself. <"Hello! It's nice to meet you!"> he said waving a pad at the trainer before tilting his head some. It was really exciting to be part of the chosen few to actually get a chance at an adventure. <"You are going on a lot of adventures aren't you?!">

The second froakie was the first female who seemed to be very proud of herself and the things she could do. Unlike the first froakie she moved to the trainer and sat before him. <"You look strong, I think we could beat the league together. "> she commented but she really wouldn't be all that upset if this trainer didn't choose her.

The final froakie was another male and he was quick to run over and cling to the man's leg. <"Oh i'm so excited! You're the first trainer I've ever met. I totally want to go on all kinds of adventures with you!"> he said before finally releasing the leg of the trainer to await the final decision.

The ghastly hovered waiting patiently as each pokemon introduced themselves, now it was all up to what the trainer wanted.

Ahh, it was like Christmas, waiting to see what kind of present you got. Except it wasn't Christmas, and while he'd be discovering three individual pokemon, only one would be his. Which could it be? Soon enough, the Gastly returned wit three poke balls floating around him, and one by one he met his prospective starters.

The first one greeted him. Pretty boringly really, then he asked him if he was going to go on a lot of adventures. "Nahh, I'm just going to chuck you in the PC and go play angry birds." Adrian replied, completely deadpan, before breaking into a fit of laughter a moment later. "Just kidding... Or am I? Nahh kidding. I think." Adrian smirked, leaving the Froakie to decide whether he was being serious or not.

Next up was a lady frog. She commented that he looked strong and they could beat the league, but otherwise, wasn't all that eager like. Adrian tilted his head, as if examining Froakie #2. "Suck up." He shot at the Froakie, grinning down at her. The third meanwhile didn't even give him much chance to look him over as he darted forward and clung to his leg. This one was eager. A bit... too eager for his own tastes.

Third one got ruled out pretty quickly. First one... Adrian didn't think was bad, but it didn't really catch his eye either. That pretty much left him with one choice. "I guess we'll go with the most eager... female of them all." Adrian said, pointing a finger to the second Froakie.

Geran was actually surprised that the choosing happened so fast, but hey to each trainer their own. It only took a few tries before it seemed that the trainer had chosen the female froakie in the middle. <"Well alright then."> the ball of gas said recalling the other two pokemon back to their pokeballs quickly so that the boy could continue on his way. Setting the other balls down on the counter the gas pokemon hovered to the other dropping the pokeball of the female froakie in the trainers hand.

<"She is your pokemon now so here is your pokeball. I also have a bag of basic essentials you'll need for your pokemon journey."> he said levitating a bag of items over as well for the boy to grab from the air. <"Make sure to be on the look out for Grimm on your journey, it's becoming more dangerous every day for young trainers."> the ball of gas said. He could only hope that the boy would make it alright on his journey, unknowing that he himself had once been part of that very same organization.

"Alrighty!" Adrian said gleefully as the Froakie's poke ball and a pack of goodies were dropped on him. When the Gastly warned about the Grim, Adrian blinked, then shrugged carelessly. "Nahh, those losers? We'll stomp any that dare mess us!" Adrian declared, before taking everything he received, and charging out the door to get started on his new journey.
